GRANT PROGRAMS

The following programs are available through the Foundation:

IOLTA GRANTS PROGRAM

In 1986, the Foundation was designated by the Montana Supreme Court to be the recipient of funds from the Interest on Lawyers Trust Account (IOLTA) program and charged with the program administration. The IOLTA program requires attorneys and law firms to place client funds that are nominal in amount or held for a short period of time into pooled, interest bearing accounts. The interest is collected by the Foundation and distributed through a competitive grant process among qualified non-profit organizations dedicated to providing access to justice to all Montanans.

The Montana Justice Foundation distributes grants to qualified non-profit organizations qualified to carry out the following charitable objectives of the Foundation:

Support and encourage the availability of legal services to vulnerable and underserved
   populations;

Increase public understanding of the law and the legal system through education;

Promote the effective administration of justice; and

Increase public understanding of and access to alternative dispute resolution.
